With increasing requirements to protect data by encrypting backups, tape device encryption and software based backup encryption are now realities.  Key to the new tape encryption technology is that it's hardware based and will not affect overall backup and recovery performance.  Encryption utilizing the new TS1120 and LTO 4 tape technolog8ies will be discussed along with the implementation of software based backup encryption using the Backup Recovery and Media Services (BRMS) product.
