Topic: Active Memory Expansion versus Active Memory Sharing
Active Memory Expansion (AME) is a new feature introduced with Power7 servers. This feature helps use memory within a server more effectively by compressing the contents of memory to use a smaller memory footprint. Active Memory Sharing was a feature introduced with Power6 servers to share memory between partitions. While both technologies are similar in some respects it is important to have an understanding of where each technology will have the best impact.
